National Irish moves to cashless banking

IT MIGHT sound like a contradiction in terms, but for the first time one of the main Irish consumer banks is moving to cashless banking in all its branches.

National Irish Bank has written to thousands of its customers this month informing them of a “new style of banking” in which branches will not handle over-the-counter cash transactions.

The letter says branches will no longer handle cash withdrawals and lodgements, night safe lodgements and foreign currency cash. Branches will continue to lodge cheques, drafts and postal orders and issue drafts.

Customers are advised to obtain cash from “ATMs nationwide” or to seek “cash-back” on their debit cards.

A spokesman confirmed that cashless banking was being introduced across the entire NIB branch network over the next 18 months, and had already been introduced successfully in a number of branches. He said the feedback from customers was positive with few complaints.

Another step towards the abolition of cash altogether. Bad for us, good for them.

Gone will be the days of those little "cash in hand" jobs where you get to keep the fruits of your labour for yourself and the taxman gets to keep his grasping hands out of your pocket.

How deliriously excited the governments must be at the prospect of knowing exactly what you have down to the last penny. No more cash stuffed under the bed for a rainy day, rather every single transaction you have made available at the press of a button, every penny you have earned, every penny you have spent, where it came from and where it went to. No privacy possible.

The total control of money would be a powerful and profitable weapon. It sounds like nothing less than an authoritarian nightmare to me.

This step has been in the pipeline for quite some time. I have read of mobile phones being equipped so as to act like credit cards and of course the ever menacing RFID implant made desirable to the gullible by its claimed ability to soon combine multiple attributes such as telephony, financial transactions, passport, driving licence, location, etc etc. Just present your arm to the reader...

Yet to mention such things is to be accused of antisemitism.

It's a great system the Jews have; they get to pillage and if we complain, we get hauled up on charges. The lesser criminals of the world must be green with envy.

There's a possibility that cheques will be phased out from 2018 in Britain. If the Irish authorities follow their lead National Irish Bank may be reduced to processing drafts and postal orders in their branches. The Future of Cheques in the UK (pdf)

It was definitely interesting. I think it's all true or if it's not it's the most profound "coincidence" I've ever seen. Amazing. They have us by the shorties.....

"It might sound like a contradiction in terms" yeah, well, that is what it sounds like. So what is a bank for? Will this lunacy even cause anyone out there to think? Or to maybe wonder if something is going wrong?
